Young Guns is well equipped to handle rough conditions, and there are plenty of sheltered fishing grounds around the Three Kings and Northland’s east coast. If the weather is deemed unsafe to sail, we’ll reschedule your trip for another agreed date.
Our vessel accommodates up to 8 guests, though we recommend 6 for maximum comfort during offshore expeditions.
Yes, absolutely. We offer shared charters for individuals or small groups who want to experience the Three Kings or Waihau Bay but don’t have a full crew. Let us know, and we’ll match you with like-minded anglers.
For Bass, Bluenose, and Hāpuku, you’ll need an electric or manual reel capable of holding around 500 m of 100 lb line with a rod rated for at least 18 kg of drag.
For Kingfish, a reel holding 200 m of 100 lb line and a rod rated for 18 kg drag or more is recommended.
No problem. Young Guns is fully equipped with high-quality tackle capable of handling everything the Three Kings can throw at you. Hire gear can be included in your trip package.
Yes. Mangōnui offers a range of accommodation options, from Airbnb stays to rooms at the historic Mangōnui Hotel, where the food is great and the beers are cold.
We can help with transfers (at an additional cost) to and from your accommodation within the Mangōnui and Doubtless Bay area. This saves you from leaving vehicles at the wharf for the week.
Most trips depart from Mangōnui Harbour in Doubtless Bay, the gateway to Northland’s offshore fishing grounds. It’s a scenic, well-equipped port and the perfect place to begin your Adventure North experience.
